What was the first music single you bought for yourself?
Not sure if this question has come up before but was having a bit of a clear out and have come across a load of old vinyl's and cassette tapes (yes tapes!!). Found a load that the folks bought me, although a 7-10 year old boy listening to Elvis, Bill Haley and the Comets and Abba is a little stretched across the spectrum!!

Anyway also found the first single I ever bought with my own money which is "Hymn" by Ultravox back in probably 1982 ish. It still sadly has the Woolworths sticker on it!!

What was the first single you purchased with you own cash?

'He's gonna step on you again' - John Kongos. My fucking older brother gave me 50p or whatever the fuck it was as a birthday present and then forced me to buy this with it. I'd never heard of the cunt or the record. Made more famous by being sampled later.

Quickly followed up with Slade's 'Cum on feel the noise' and T Rex's 'Children of the Revolution'.

I have a horrible feeling that it might have been something by Gary Glitter but if not, I'll say Crazy Horses by the Osmonds as that was then, and is now awesome!
